omg yes! good art museums: LNMM, Rīgas Mākslas telpa, Izstāžu zāle Arsenāls, Rīgas Birža. depending on when you are in the city, you might be able to catch some more contemporrary exhibitions, there is no one place, but they are all over the city depending on the artists or events. Also if you have the time i would suggest going to Jūrmala, it is a neighbouring city (can easilly get there by train). there is an old train station that has been turned into an art space - Dubulti, and you can also walk around the city going to Majori and Jomas iela. There is also Aspazijas māja in the city. it is a museum about one of the most notable Latvian authors. it is very beutiful during summer. There are lot of other more specific museums and places if you are interested and just walking around the city and taking in the architecture is pretty nice. Would also suggest for you to go across the river Daugava to Āgenskalns - visit the local market (Āgenskalna tirgus) and walk around the neighbourhood and the parks to get a bit different perspective on the city, it has a completely different feeling

vegan places: Mazā Terapija (my fave place), Miit, Kozy Eats, Zefīrs (they have amazing vegan pizzas). most places in the center will have vegan options, but dont count on it :D

If you want more tips suggestions feel free to hit me up on instagram - kasp.ga

i hope you enjoy your time in europe, if you need any recs for copenhagen that aren't the 4 tourist attractions people know / exorbitantly expensive cafés influencers post at i'd be happy to give some

would love copenhagen recs ! especially things with lots of young creatives that are a bit more democratic than most of the contemporary art world lol

i do think even as sort of establishment as louisiana and glyptoteket are they're both must sees… huset/bastard café is very international and does a lot of cult film screenings (as does cinemateket), but i will say it's very difficult to meet people in copenhagen unless you really go out of your way to do so. honestly, most of the things i can recommend seeing there are still very common bucketlist things for people but are a little lower down- skip the little mermaid and the roundtower and visit the botanical gardens instead, if you have time for a day trip visit kronborg and louisiana!! i also think fredriksberg has a lot of cute little local owned record/thrift stores etc, but i haven't lived in copenhagen for a while now and i'm realizing a bunch of places i'd have recommended have closed :(

Dear Charlie, so sorry that I missed saying goodbye to you in person. The whole time we were working together I had no idea what a brilliant writer you are - but after reading some of your essays on here I have WISED (wizened?) UP and when you are famous (because you definitely will be) I'll shamelessly humble-brag to people that we were colleagues once upon a time. I hope you have an excellent birthday and wish you all the best for your fellowship! Safe travels and take care! -Caitlin
